Encore: Cameron Boyce (Episodes 59 & 60)

This encore episode of Hometown to Hollywood is dedicated to our beloved Cameron Boyce, who passed away this week at the age of twenty. I can think of no better way to honor him than by sharing his own words.
Cameron’s interview was originally released in two parts because it went so long… as with everything he did, Cameron was generous with his time and energy. He was committed to sharing his experience honestly and thoughtfully, in an effort to help and inspire people. This encore episode brings both parts back into one single conversation.
Cameron’s beautiful heart and mind left a lasting mark on everyone who was lucky enough to know him personally, as we did, as well as millions more who were touched by his work. I remember being struck at the time by something he said in our conversation: “My ‘Butterfly Effect’ is really broad.” Even at the age of 18, Cameron was deeply aware of the impact he had on the world, and he took that responsibility and privilege seriously.
It is my hope that this interview—which may be the longest one he recorded—brings some comfort and joy to his family, his friends, and the many people whose lives he touched. And that we can amplify Cameron’s “Butterfly Effect” just a little bit more.
Some of my favorite quotes from our conversation:
- “When all the stars align, it’s really special.”
- “To get those 6 projects, you have to do 600 auditions.”
- “Throw in a little bit of personality. Sprinkle it on.”
- “You should always go with your gut.”
- “Dancers are some of the best people to be around.”
- “I’ve never gotten used to the impact I have on people.”
- “If you’re passionate about becoming famous? Not a good deal.”
- “Stay persistent. Because it doesn’t come overnight.”
- “When you are right for a character and role, it’ll happen.”
- “Trust the process.”
- “When you lose your self, you lose everything, so be yourself.”
- “Parents really are everything.”
- Whatever it is that you’re doing in life, just make sure you’re true to yourself. That’s the most important thing.”
- “My ‘Butterfly Effect’ is really broad.”
Cameron, thank you for sharing your light with us.

I didn’t know him/never met him or anything but i literally got so sad when he died. i literally cried, like actual tears?!? um what? i’ve been thinking as to why this occurace happened and i think i’ve got it. sooooo i’ve been seeing everyone’s post ab him and they are all saying the same thing, “he was the light of the room” “he was younger than me yet taught me how to love and be kind” “he was different” and it makes me sad to think such a young star passed away so tragically yet he was literally amazing. everyone is mourning rn and it’s so sad to think about it bc he will never get the chance to have kids and teach them what he preaches to others he will never get the see descendants 3 premier and so on. he will be missed terribly by so many of the people that he inspired. this being said i think i am very naïve. sometimes i maybe think that bad things don’t happen to good people, but i’m wrong. not everyone is promised tomorrow. cam went to bed thinking that he was going to wake up, and i think people take that for granted. recently many people that i know have died as well. i want you to tell your parents you love them, your friends you love them your family you love them right now. tomorrow. even when you are mad at them, because you never know what could happen and when you get the chance to live, just live. be crazy, be spontaneous. and be kind. don’t be rude just because you maybe feel bad ab urself or are jealous or want to make fun of someone that may not be as good as you. don’t let the past get you down either. i’m sorry to break it to ya but you can’t change the past, you can only change the future, so live in the now. i hope this changes the way you look at things because this was kind of a wake up call for me happen and when you get and i hope it is for you too. cherish every moment because you don’t know when something can happen. Listening to this made my heart so happy. Cam has inspired me, and I will never stop to think a second time again. Thank you fo
